A team of final-year Information Technology students from Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai have continued their impressive performances at two prestigious tech events, showcasing how classroom innovation can power real impact.
The team, ‘Hextech’, fresh off the back of winning the MDXcelerator grand finale, emerged victorious at a hackathon hosted by start up incubator In5 Tech on 19 April, securing first place with their project Green Miles.
Following this success, they were shortlisted to pitch their solution at the Future Tech Programme during the AI Festival, part of Dubai’s AI Week, where they clinched an impressive second place.
The team, consisting of students Akshvin Uthesh, Mohammad Sohail, Anousha Tariq, Saanviya Sunil, Syed Nasiruddin, and Himanshu Masand, developed Green Miles as part of their coursework for Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship, an optional module that exemplifies how entrepreneurial thinking is embedded in MDX Dubai’s curriculum.
The Green Miles initiative is tailored for eco-conscious users and socially responsible companies, encouraging sustainable mobility through rewards and gamification. It does this through turning everyday transport decisions into a fun and rewarding experience, aiming to create a measurable environmental impact.
Their success story is rooted in MDXcelerator, the university’s business start-up support programme hosted by the Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) in collaboration with the Careers and Employability Service.
MDXcelerator offers a unique blend of mentoring, expert-led workshops, online tools, and financial support to help students and graduates turn business ideas into viable ventures.
The MIH community is available for all MDX Dubai students to join and is not just about creating a business, but about curating a lifelong mindset, involving creativity, problem solving, and solution-driven thinking.
