United Nations Recognise Middlesex University Dubai for SDG Operations
- Thursday, 19 June 2025
The Institute of Sustainable Development (ISD) from Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai have successfully completed the prestigious UN Global Compact SDG Ambition Accelerator.
This transformative, months-long, initiative empowers organisations to embed the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their core strategies and operations.
The achievement was recognised at a ceremony on 3 June 2025 at the Emirates Towers in Dubai, with MDX Dubai represented by head of ISD and Senior Marketing Lecturer Andrew Mackenzie, Marketing Lecturer Rebecca Rich, and Senior Business Lecturer Rhoderick Romano.
The event took place as part of the Voluntary National Review, a country-led process to assess and present national progress on the SDGs.
The SDG Ambition Accelerator challenges institutions and businesses to move beyond incremental change, encouraging bold, strategic action aimed at achieving long-term resilience and sustainable growth. Participating organisations are guided through a process of assessing their current performance, setting ambitious SDG-aligned targets, and activating integrated strategies to lead systemic transformation.
This effort directly supports the Forward Faster initiative, a global call to action that urges the private sector to accelerate progress on the 2030 SDG targets with urgency and measurable impact.
The ceremony featured inputs from His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange; Ibrahim Al Zubi, Senior Vice President of Sustainability and Climate at ADNOC and Vice Chairman of the UN Global Compact UAE; as well as senior executives from PwC, the UAE National Committee on SDGs, and over 100 participating organisations.
MDX Dubai continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability through a range of initiatives led by the ISD. These include the launch of two student-led sustainability societies, the integration of SDGs into all academic programmes, sustainability-focused research and knowledge exchange, as well as impactful community outreach through circular economy principles.
