Fostering an Innovative and Entrepreneurial Mindset
- Monday, 21 April 2025
“Innovation means recognising problems that truly matter and solving them with clear purpose, fresh thinking, and creativity.”
These were the words of team ‘Hextech’ following their recent win in the MDXcelerator grand finale. MDXcelerator is hosted by the Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) in collaboration with the Careers and Employability Services Department, providing a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to bring their business ideas to life through tailored mentoring, expert-led workshops, and access to valuable resources.
The judging panel chose Hextech as the winners of the competition handing them a cheque for AED 3000.
Hextech, made up of BSc Information Technology students Akshvin Uthesh, Mohammad Sohail, Anousha Tariq, Saanviya Sunil, Syed Nasiruddin and Himanshu Masand, said: “We’re so pleased to have been chosen as the winners of this brilliant process and competition.
“We created the platform Green Miles which is designed to help eco-conscious individuals and sustainability-driven companies who want to track mobility, reduce carbon footprints, and meet CSR goals by gamifying sustainable actions and rewarding eco-friendly behaviour.
“This is different to traditional carbon avoidance programmes that lack real-time engagement and tangible incentives.
“The platform allows users to track and monetise carbon savings, empowering users to track eco-friendly travel and earn carbon credits for everyday commutes. It incentivises sustainable choices, rewarding users with discounts, perks, or tokens for using metros, EVs, carpools, and bikes.
“It also supports Environmental Social and Governance Goals & Sustainable, helping businesses and events offset emissions, and enables carbon trading, converting emissions into verified credits for use in local and global carbon markets.
“The MIH supported us throughout the entire journey by fostering an environment that helps us innovate. They provide us with resources and held support sessions covering multiple key areas such as pitching, financial planning, prototyping, ideation, and more.
“We plan to reinvest the prize money into further developing our idea and refining the prototype. We also want to explore ways to make it more user-friendly and cost effective.
“Part of the money might go towards tools, materials and even expert advice that can help us take our idea to the next level.
“Our thanks go out to Professor Fehmida Hussain, the whole MIH team and the judging panel for supporting our vision”.
The MIH community is available for all MDX Dubai students to join and is not just about creating a business, but about curating a lifelong mindset, involving creativity, problem solving, and solution-driven thinking.
