Moot Court Competition 2025 allows MDX Dubai Students to Shine

  • Wednesday, 25 June 2025

Law students from Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai made an outstanding debut at the recent International Bar Association (IBA) Moot Court Competition 2025.

The competition, held at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, from 11 to 18 June, serves as a platform for law students worldwide to deepen their understanding of international criminal law and the workings of the ICC.

Organised annually, it provides students with a unique opportunity to engage with pressing issues in international criminal law and demonstrate their legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

Competing for the very first time at one of the most prestigious international law competitions in the world, the MDX Dubai team advanced to the quarterfinals, placing them among the top 27 teams out of 127 global participants.

This remarkable accomplishment was made even more special as the team was awarded 2nd Runner-Up for Best Newcomer Team, a title recognising the most promising first-time entrants.

Team member Agnes Mariyam Biju earned 2nd Runner-Up Best Defence Counsel Speaker, a significant personal achievement which showcased the team's advocacy strength.

The team representing Middlesex University Dubai also included Sreelakshmy Arun, Sergei Asikyan, Rasul Isaev and Musfira Shareen.

Their preparation and performance were guided by Deena Bhoyroo, Senior Law Lecturer, MDX Dubai, whose mentorship and commitment were instrumental in the team’s success.

MDX Dubai’s strong debut highlights the quality of the law programme and the benefits of strong industry collaborations. You can join us in September.
