  • Monday, 1 July 2019

Middlesex University Dubai’s Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) held their first Data Science and Robotics Masterclass on 29 June 2019.

The session was attended by 35 participants from various sectors across government agencies and professional industries within the UAE. The session was opened by Dr Fehmida Hussain, Head of CEI, who welcomed the participants and emphasised the growing need for skilled data science and robotics professionals, especially within the region.

The first half of the day comprised of two sessions on data science; introducing the field of data analytics and its application in business, followed by a hands-on session on machine learning and predictive analytics. Both sessions were facilitated by Dr Krishnadas Nanath, Senior Faculty in CEI and Senior Analytics SOAT Lead at Majid Al Futtaim Holding. The students were thoroughly engaged and were amazed by some of the applications and techniques that were discussed.

The afternoon sessions were carried out by Judhi Prasetyo, Senior Faculty in CEI. Judhi introduced basic robotics techniques including control system and kinematics followed by a practical industrial robot programming using Epson’s Scara Robot. He also ran a Kahoot quiz and gave 3 Arduino nano boards to the top three participants.
