Award winning writer Joe Hill visits Middlesex University Dubai
- March 7 2018
In association with Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Middlesex University Dubai had the honour of welcoming award winning horror writer Joe Hill to the University to talk to students and staff on Sunday 4 March 2018. Joe told the story of how he became a writer, his decision to hide his identity as the son of Stephen and Tabitha King to ensure that he was seen as an original writer, and the struggles he initially faced.
Author of novels such as ‘The Heart Shaped Box’, ‘Horns’, ‘NOS4RA2’ and his latest endeavor, ‘Strange Weather’, Joe provided valuable insights into the pathways to success for writers and how perseverance and determination pays dividends.
After finding success with a collection of short stories, Joe’s first novel ‘The Heart Shaped Box’ led to revelations about his identity and now Joe enjoys success as a celebrated and multi-award winning author in his own right. Joe regaled these tales with enthusiasm and wit before taking time out to answer questions from the audience.
Middlesex University Dubai would like to thank Emirates Airline Festival of Literature for allowing Joe to visit the University to talk about his life and work, which gave our students the opportunity to not only engage with the world famous author, but to take on his experience and guidance and apply this to their own lives.
