MDX Dubai students learn the art of thriving in today’s corporate world during CEI Virtual Career Day
- Thursday, 6 May 2021
The Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) department of Middlesex University Dubai hosted the first ever virtual Career Fair on 5 May 2021. The session began with a welcome speech by Dr. Fehmida Hussain, Head of Computer Engineering and Informatics, who talked about the importance of the career fair and how vital it is for students to gain networking and soft skills to further their careers.
This was followed by an amazing guest speaker session by Mr. Abdalla Nasr, HR Partner for Gulf, KSA & East Africa at Lenovo UAE, and the author of Amazon International bestselling book, The Corporate. He spoke to the audience about the concept behind his book “The Corporate- The Art of Thriving in a Competitive Talent Market” and explained how anyone can use the information it contains to thrive in the corporate world.
A thought-provoking, informative, and insightful panel discussion on “Career Insights” with some of our own MDX Dubai alumni now working in industry added another dimension to the Career Day. The expert panellists were Mr. Youssef Ibrahim, Head of Information Technology Department at Archwooden; Ms. Maryam Lawan Gwadabe, Founder of Blue Sapphire Hub in Nigeria; Mr. Danish Nihal, IT System Administrator & Digital Marketing Executive at AlSahlawi & Co; Mr. Otobong Friday, Marine (Data) Analyst at Jotun Middle East, India & Africa; and Ms. Arundhati Basu, HCI Expert/Independent Consultant and MDX Visiting Lecturer.
The panellists spoke about their current roles and responsibilities, how they found their niche, and how their journey has been so far after graduating from MDX. They also shared their own experiences in the industry. In addition, each speaker shed light on the big trends that students need to keep their eyes on that could directly impact their career, as well as the education and skills that are required for success in their careers in the modern tech sector. The session was moderated by our third year BEng student, Mr. Ammar Ali Moazzam.
The event hosted 12 companies that included a variety of government, semi-government and private companies. The companies presented different opportunities, such as internships and full-time positions, to our dynamic and passionate MDX Dubai CEI students. Our students got the chance to interact, connect and discuss with the employers virtually during the event.
The Virtual CEI Career Fair was a huge success, with a record number of students attending. The feedback from attendees and presenters was excellent. The event was brilliantly organised by CEI Career Liaison Ms Madhumita Das and Dilkash Sultana from the University’s Career and Employability Services. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped organize the CEI Career Day!
