Middlesex University Dubai hosted its 300th Wednesday Research Seminar

  • Monday, 12 April 2021

On 7th April, Middlesex University Dubai hosted its 300th Wednesday Research Seminar. To celebrate this special occasion, the Dubai Campus was delighted to host Professor Nic Beech, Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University and President of the British Academy of Management.   In the virtual seminar “Towards Inclusive Impact in Research,” Professor Beech articulated a vision for more inclusive impact in research by arguing that traditional linear views of knowledge transfer need to be transformed.   Professor Beech highlighted some of the ways in which Middlesex University is moving towards the integration of research and impact through more co-creative approaches where research and practice are mutually engaged and influence each other.

The virtual seminar was attended by more than 100 participants from within UAE and beyond, including colleagues from Middlesex University’s London, Dubai and Mauritius campuses. Dr Cody Morris Paris, Deputy Director Academic Planning & Research accentuated that: “Professor Nic Beech’s inspirational and insightful vision of inclusive impact in research provided all of us in attendance a point of reflection for our own research and collaborations, as we consider how we might achieve real impact through our research.”

The Middlesex University Dubai Wednesday Research Seminar Series has been a cornerstone of research activities at Middlesex University Dubai since its launch in 2008. The research seminar has been organized on a weekly basis during the academic term by the Research Committee. The seminars provide a forum for researchers to share and discuss cutting-edge research. Presenters have include faculty from Middlesex University Dubai and other universities in the United Arab Emirates, as well as researchers from other global institutions.

Speaking on achieving this milestone, Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai, said: “Middlesex University Dubai takes pride in our research, and the Wednesday research seminar series has played a pivotal role in creating a strong research culture among its faculty and students. Professor Beech’s presentation on ‘Towards Inclusive Impact in Research’ aligned perfectly with the milestone 300th Research Seminar”
