Middlesex University Dubai hosts inaugural EMAC Regional Moot

  • Sunday, 26 November 2017

In collaboration with the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC), Middlesex University Dubai hosted the final round of the inaugural EMAC Regional Moot from 23 to 25 November.

The moot was designed to give students a valuable insight into international arbitration, with an emphasis of dispute resolution, through a regional perspective. The event gave the students the opportunity to participate in workshops hosted by international lawyers with vast experience in the arbitration sector.

Provided with a real world arbitration problem, governed by EMAC arbitration rules, students were required to prepare written submissions on behalf of the Claimant and Respondent, with the successful teams moving on to the final oral argument round.

After months of hard work, the first place was awarded to Middlesex University Dubai, represented by Maimoona Nalkhande, Suzan Shaban and Manar Hassan. Maimoona was also awarded ‘Best Individual Oralist’. ‘Best Claimant Memorandum’ was awarded to the National Law University – Jodhpur, and the University of Dubai for the ‘Best Respondent Memorandum’. The ‘Best Team Spirit’ award was given to the University of Sharjah.

Congratulations to the participants and our winners!
