A Talk by Mr. Ghaith Shamayleh on Information Systems and their scope in the Banking Field

The Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics at Middesex University of Dubai continues to bring in the industry experience to the students enrolled in its academic programmes. This time, the department invited Mr. Ghaith Shamyleh, Senior Technical Consultant from NCR Corporation to share his knowledge and expertise on Information Systems (ISs) namely in the Financial Sector and Banking Industry.The distinguished speaker covered different topics including: purpose of ISs, components of IS, applications of ISs with focus on specialized systems (Core banking, GIS, ERP), Expert Systems and Decision Support systems.Through his unique practices in the banking field, Mr. Ghaith deepened the students’ knowledge on the banking operations, banking IS Architecture and the relevant IT regulations from the Central Bank.

Besides being informative and reflective, the lecturer attended the students’ questions enthusiastically as well as directed them towards future careers in BIS and IT. Students benefited greatly from being exposed to real life practices of NCR Corporation. The lecture was arranged by Ms. Engie Bashir.

The students of the Accounting and Finance Department celebrated the success of the second edition of the Financial Modeling Club (FMC2.0) on 6 March 2024. Led by students, this year’s FMC 2.0 featured four upskilling workshops and two competitions. A total of fifty-five students secured the Foundations Certificate in Financial Modeling, offered by our academic partner, FMI. Special congratulations to Chirag Kherajani for earning the Financial Modeling Institute scholarship for Advanced Financial Modeling certification.
