MIH Students Reach Third Place in TiE-U 2024 GCC/UAE Final

  • Monday, 22 April 2024

On April 18, 2024, Middlesex University Dubai students supported by Middlesex Innovation Hub participated in the TiE-U 2024 GCC/UAE Final Pitch Competition.

TiE U is the world’s biggest collegiate entrepreneurship event, offering students a chance to pitch at Silicon Valley – the global hub for startup businesses. The TiE U MENA Program provides a unique platform for undergraduate and postgraduate students to transform their ideas into viable businesses. The programme encompasses three categories: Emirati, GCC/UAE, and the Rest of MEA.

The BC Warriors, composed of Fathima Farha and Sayeda Fatima, won third place. Jivika Gangwani also made it to the final round with her concept ‘Eco Romance’ idea. MDX was proud to represent two out of the ten finalists, which was the most for any participating university.

The recently launched Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) raised awareness among students across programmes, and workshops were conducted for ten registered groups, two of which were shortlisted for the final.

Participant Fathima Farha said: “Thank you TiE-U for the amazing opportunity to participate in the competition, introduced to us by MDX. We secured third place, and it was a significant achievement especially as we were competing with many other teams. The experience was invaluable in refining our idea, thanks to the insightful feedback from the jury. Special gratitude to MDX professors Rhoderick Romano and Jeongsoo Han for their unwavering guidance and support throughout the Tie U competition journey. We’re looking forward to developing our idea (BC WARRIORS) from the support we received from the TiE-U Team.’

Jovika Gangwani said: “Thank you so much to Stephen King! The experience was wonderful, it doesn’t matter if I won or lost. Thank you so much for the immense support throughout.”

The event coordination was facilitated by Rhoderick Romano, Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University Dubai Business School, and was heavily supported by Dr Jeongsoo Han, Senior Lecturer MDX Business School, and Stephen King, Senior Lecturer Media.
