In line with the MoU signed between Middlesex University Dubai and Unipreneur Inc, the department of Computer Engineering and Informatics and the Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) participated in the prominent startup and youth conference Intersec2024 from January 16 to January 18, 2024.

Intersec is a reputed cyber security, national security and safety event held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The 25th year anniversary edition of Intersec presents the Intersec Innovation Arena (IIA) powered by Unipreneur Inc, which is an exhibition and pitching and knowledge sharing platform for startups, young innovators and academia in the cyber security, safety and related verticals.
Through MDX Dubai’s participation in the Intersec Innovation Arena, our students had the opportunity to showcase their projects and network with experts in the field. This invaluable opportunity allowed them to discuss their projects and experiences with peers and experts. Throughout the event, CEI students also attended workshops and tech talks in the field of cybersecurity.

MSc Data Science student Firdous Farooq said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase my project and interact with major players in the industry, procurement experts, and service suppliers.”

Kashfi Rahman, MSc Cyber Security and Pen Testing student said: “I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to participate in Intersec 2024 and present my thesis topic, which revolves around the critical theme of enhancing cybersecurity against the Magniber ransomware. The diverse perspectives and discussions during the event have enriched my understanding and opened up new avenues for future exploration”.

On the second day of the event, Ms Engie Bashir, Senior Lecturer in Computer Engineering and Informatics, participated in a panel discussion called “Future Leaders of Cybersecurity”, during which she highlighted the CEI programmes available at Middlesex University Dubai that specialise in cybersecurity, and emphasised how Middlesex University Dubai alongside the Middlesex Innovation Hub can enrich student experiences beyond traditional classroom learning.

The Middlesex University Dubai participation in the Intersec 2024 was organised by Ms Engie Bashir, the CPC of Computer Engineering and Informatics undergraduate programmes, and Dr Maha Saadeh who is the programme advisor of BSc Cyber Security and Digital Forensics and MSc Cyber Security and Pen Testing programmes.
