MDX launches Next Steps: an awards event celebrating talented students as they pursue their options for Masters study with MDX

Throughout their three years of Undergraduate study, students from every programme undertake a range of exams, projects, presentations, hand-ins, and challenges. These all contribute to their education and learning, and of course, provide the grades they need to determine their graduation results. Sometimes, however, it can be rewarding to just absorb the level of work that’s been undertaken and celebrate it not just for its academic merit, but for the student behind it; the effort, commitment, innovation and ideas big and small!
MDX has proudly launched the Next Steps awards event to give each third-year student the chance to shine and reflect on their progress before they finish their degrees, and begin to think about perhaps furthering their university career with a Postgraduate degree.
The inaugural event was launched on Tuesday 18th April for our Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) students. Over 60 students and their guests arrived on Dubai Knowledge Park Campus, and made their way to the lobby to receive a warm welcome from Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, as well as Head of Computer Engineering and Informatics Dr Fehmida Hussain.
Moving into the most heartwarming portion of the evening, the awards ceremony began led by Dr Fehmida. Accolades were given out such as the Adaptability Award, which was given to Carlos Arro for their exceptional ability to adapt to new situations and environments in changing circumstances. The Empathy Award went to Praneeth Kumar Kamisetty, for commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the classroom and harnessing a respectful environment, while the Grit Award went to Abdul Haseeb Khan and Lowell Aaron Lobo for their combination of passion, perseverance towards long-term goals, and determination in the face of challenges.
Following many more awards and celebrations, the evening’s panelists were welcomed to introduce themselves, all of whom have studied or are currently studying for a Master’s degree at Middlesex University Dubai. The panel consisted of Solomon Agada and Prarthana Maheshwari, MSc Data Science; Aaqeeb Basheer, MSc Cyber Security and Pen Testing; Danish Nihal, MSc Robotics; and Mukarram Ahmed, MSc Engineering Management. As they spoke about their experiences, they inspired the students in attendance to believe in their ability to continue their education to an advanced level and showcased some of the benefits of continuing to build your skills in the CEI department.
As the evening moved on, the crowd made their way to a private room where the faculty, students and their family enjoyed an Iftar meal together, with a celebratory cake cutting solidifying the brilliant atmosphere of pride and accomplishment in the room.
Well done to all third-year CEI students completing their final exams and projects – you have done an amazing job!
