The Office of Student Research (OSR) is delighted to announce the outstanding achievement by MDX Dubai Education and Psychology students at the Abu Dhabi University Undergraduate Research and Innovation Competition.

The event, held on 23 May 2024, demonstrated the talents of over 1,200 undergraduate students in a hybrid format. The competition received almost 600 submissions from 77 universities from countries worldwide, making it the largest instalment of the ADU competition to date.

The Middlesex University Dubai students shone brightly at the competition. Students Jihan Nadia and Tala Hazem Bayado, under the supervision of Senior Lecturers in Education Dr Yousra Osman and Dr Alison Burrows, presented their research in the Education and Instructional Technologies track.

Meanwhile, Isra Alaana and Anagha Nair supervised by Associate Professor of Psychology Dr Lynda Hyland; Fathimath Rana supervised by adjunct lecturer in Psychology, Olga Khokhlov; Aashia Shefi supervised by adjunct lecturer in Psychology, Magdalena Mosanya; Hiba Jahan co-supervised by Head of Psychology Dr Anita Shrivastava Kashi and Bahar Hashemi, adjunct lecturer in Psychology; along with Jannah Fathima and Omeesha Krishnan supervised by Dr Anita Kashi and Bahar Hashemi, adjunct lecturer in Psychology, all presented their work in the Psychology track.

MDX Dubai's psychology students achieved outstanding success:

  • Hiba Jahan was awarded first place for her research on grief and existential meaning.
  • Aashia Shefi secured second place with her mediation analysis on cognitive reappraisal, socio-cognitive mindfulness, and psychological well-being.
  • Omeesha Krishnan earned third place for her qualitative study on the grief experiences of young Indian women.

The competition was the result of many months of dedicated work by our students and their mentors. Dr Lynda Hyland is responsible for managing Middlesex University Dubai’s participation in the ADU Undergraduate Research Competition, and we have been active participants since 2015. Well done to all students who represented the university and won an award at the event. MDX expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Dr Daphne Demetrios, Professor Fehmida Hussain, and Dr Ruta Vaidya who are also a vital part of organising Middlesex University Dubai’s submissions for OSR.
