
Technovation-2021 : A cross-discipline Fintech competition at Middlesex University Dubai

The finale of Technovation-2021, an internal Fintech competition, was held virtually on Thursday 21 January 2021. 4 teams comprising of around 20 students presented their Fintech related ideas and prototypes to a panel of judges comprising of a mix of senior industry professionals and academia. Mr Krishna Kumar from Cognizant, Mr Atif Ahmad from Emirates NBD and Dr Fehmida Hussain (Head of Computer Engineering and Informatics at MDX Dubai) were highly impressed with the innovative ideas and praised the students for their commitment and work.
Now in its third year, the competition saw students spend approximately 2 months brainstorming and refining their ideas that were centered around the theme ‘Pandemic and beyond’, leveraging technology.
Participating students first attended a virtual workshop conducted by Mr Atif Ahmad on 25 November 2020, to get an insight into the concept of FinTech and the use technology in financial services.
The top 4 teams were awarded cash prizes sponsored by Al Futtaim Logsitics. Ammar Ali Moazzam, Samaam Ali Khan, Mohammad Hattab and Siddharth Pradeepwalked away with the winning prize of AED 1,000 for their innovation HOTSBOX and the first runners-up were Mohammad Asif, Simroz Shroff, Badar Ismail, Shilpa Shanavas who were awarded AED 750 for their idea titled Trackerify.
