The Department of Law and Politics hosted its annual Career Day on 14 February 2019. 87 students took advantage of the opportunity to attend guest speaker sessions by leading industry experts as well as a Career Fair where representatives from leading organisations provided career insights, details of internship and employment opportunities.
The guest speaker sessions first welcomed Suzan Shedid, Google Policy Fellow and MDX Dubai Alumna, who delivered an insightful and interactive talk entitled ‘The Boat of Uncertainty’. Next, David Galea, Partner at leading international law firm Ince & Co spoke on the matter of ‘Looking Beyond the Law when Becoming a Lawyer’, providing invaluable advice to students about the importance of soft skills and personal branding. Paul Kayrouz, Head of Fintech, Blockchain & Emerging Technologies at PWC Legal then discussed ‘How Technology is Disrupting the Practice of Law’, providing unique insights into this hot topic. Finally, Aaron Faith, Director Middle East & Emerging Markets (Legal & Compliance Search) at Marsden Legal Search & Recruitment hosted an interactive session entitled ‘How to Land your First Job’. We are thankful to all the guest speakers who volunteered their time to help prepare our students for their future careers.
The Career Fair welcomed a number of industry leaders, including Dentons, Clifford Chance, LexisNexis, Pinsent Masons and Emirates Flight Catering. Students moved around the venue freely, speaking with representatives from the organisations, gathering insights on career and internship opportunities and putting into practice the skills discussed in the guest speaker sessions. Students have been extremely positive in their feedback with many having secured offers of internships. We are grateful to all the organisations and their representatives who helped to make the Career Fair a success.
