Middlesex University Dubai students had an amazing and successful day at BITS Pilani’s Annual Cultural Competition – JASHN last week. Students won Gold in the ‘Western Group’ dance category, Bronze in the ‘Poetry Slam’ and another Bronze in ‘Western Solo’ signing competition.
Psychology student Saradha Bathana and IFP student Abigail Spencer wowed the audience and judges with their recital of an original poem written in support of women’s empowerment and gender equality. Abigail then went on to win another Bronze for the University in the singing category amongst a large group of competitors from 7 other universities across the region.
As the day came to a close, nearly 700 spectators cheered on Middlesex University Dubai’s Dance Crew who won the JASHN Western Group dance competition, with Law Student Clarence Orendain also winning Best Female Dancer at the contest.
Transformers Dance Studio and their choreographer Vikyath created and taught our students routines covering over 7 different dance genres, with the highlight of the choreography being a version of the traditional Maori’s HAKA performance, accompanied by well-designed sport outfits to resemble a rugby team in action. Congratulations to our student Maria Antonenko, Coordinator of Middlesex University Dubai’s Dance Club, and to Vikyath for coaching our students for 6 tough weeks. Well done everyone!
