International Foundation Programme

24-week Foundation degree preparing you for university.
The International Foundation Programme is a 30 week programme designed for students who wish to study at Middlesex University Dubai but who may not meet the necessary entry requirements for direct entry onto one of our undergraduate programmes. The IFP prepares students for enrolment onto one of our many Bachelor’s Degrees and allows them to settle into life on campus and bridge the gap between high school and university education. Students can choose to specialise in Business, Law and Politics, Psychology, Arts and Media, or Engineering and Computer Informatics.

The Department of Psychology offers a solid grounding in modern psychology through a mixture of theoretical and professional practice, offering the opportunity to specialise in a range of pathways. Our students are encouraged to consider how psychology interacts with other academic disciplines such as Human Resource Management, Marketing, Education and Criminology, equipping them to pursue global careers in a range of industries where an applied knowledge of human behaviour and experiences will ensure they stand out to potential employers. Students also gain exposure to the world of clinical , counseling, health, and industrial psychology and develop the counselling and interpersonal skills needed to undertake further postgraduate training to practice as clinical, counselling, health, and industrial psychologists.

Drive how new technologies are changing our society.The Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics at Middlesex University Dubai encompasses modern engineering, technology and computing taught by award-winning faculty with decades of collective industry and academic experience. Our students are given an edge through partnerships with leading STEM organisations in the Middle East and around the world and are able to pursue coveted industry qualifications as part of their curriculum. Through leading research conducted by our Centre for Innovation in Human Experience, students are also exposed to cutting-edge technologies and concepts such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Data Science during their studies, equipping them to pursue global, impactful careers in this in-demand field. RoboTechX Lab Students Take First Prize at Emirates Robotics Competition

Four teams of students from RoboTechX Lab Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai participated in the second edition of Emirates Robotics Competition organised by Khalifa University, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Dubai Future Labs. The event ran from December 2023 to February 2024.  The competition brings together talented teams from across the region, united by a common goal: harnessing the power of robotics to address the pressing issue of environmental cleaning. The teams of undergraduate Computer Engineering Informatics students were shortlisted to the final round from 16 participants of well-known universities across the UAE.Team Shuri of MDX won the first prize in the ‘Manipulation’ category, where the robot must pick up trash, classify the item as metal, plastic, paper, or glass, and place the trash in the related bin. The team deployed EPSON VT6 robot equipped with a webcam to detect trash, and a custom 3D printed gripper. The robot is controlled by Python and Arduino codes powered by custom trained Artificial Intelligence (AI) model.The AED 15,000 cash prize award was presented by Dr Hamad Karki of Khalifa University, Ahmad Alattar of Dubai Future Labs, and Dr Jinane Mounsef of RIT after the final round on 21 February 2024 at the competition venue in Khalifa University Abu Dhabi.

MDX Challenge Season 2 Elevates Employability Skills and Industry Exposure

Keeping in line with the Year of Employability at Middlesex University Dubai, the Careers and Employability Services Department hosted MDX Challenge Season 2, raising the bar even higher after a successful inaugural MDX Challenge that was held in November 2023.Taking place throughout January and February over a series of engaging workshops culminating in the grand finale on the 8th of February 2024, MDX Challenge Season 2 witnessed a notable expansion in participation, indicating the increasing enthusiasm and engagement surrounding such events. Workshops were facilitated by a team from Odoo, a large-scale company providing a suite of business management software tools including CRM, e-commerce, billing, accounting, manufacturing, warehouse, and project management options. Participants not only gained practical experience in utilising this software but also received free access as a bonus, enriching their learning experience.The finale of the MDX Challenge involved a simulation where teams immersed themselves in the role of a real manufacturing business, tackling every facet of the enterprise, from website creation to supply chain planning, online order management, and payment processing. This experience provided students with practical exposure to contemporary business processes and equipped them with efficient problem-solving skills. In recognition of their achievements, the winning team consisting of Akshvin Uthesh, Zaid Faris, Stephanie Asare-Kodua, Ribin Muhammed and Maryam Umar & runners-up consisting of Safiyyah Ashker, Nesrin Abdurahim, Dita Mazalova, Aishwarya Sharma and Vadim Frolov were awarded cash prizes. Additionally, the winners were offered a unique job shadowing opportunity where they will get the chance to spend three days at the Odoo office in Dubai, further enhancing their industry exposure and networking opportunities.The Careers and Employability Services Department constantly strives to foster holistic growth and professional development among its students and alumni through initiatives like the MDX Challenge. At its core, this challenge embodies the idea of bringing diverse students together to confront real-world business problems. MDX Participates in UAE Innovates by Launching Tabtakir 2024

On February 19, 2024, Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) proudly hosted the MDX Dubai Tabtakir 2024 event in alignment with UAE Innovates, one of the world’s largest innovation festivals. The event, held at the Dubai Knowledge Park Campus Study District, was a vibrant celebration of the pioneering spirit that drives the UAE’s Vision of Innovation.Under the guidance of Professor Fehmida Hussain, Founder and Head of MIH and Head of the Computer Engineering and Informatics department, and the creative direction of Engie Bashir, Founding Member of MIH and Campus Programme Coordinator for Undergraduate Computer Engineering and Informatics programmes, the event underscored Middlesex University Dubai’s commitment to fostering an ecosystem of innovation and creativity.        Professor Fehmida Hussain said: “The Tabtakir 2024 event underscored Middlesex University Dubai and the Middlesex Innovation Hub’s dedication to nurturing and championing transformative ideas and initiatives among our students. We firmly embrace the UAE Innovates concept, believing that with guidance, our youth hold the potential to make profound contributions to the progress of our nation and beyond.”The name Tabtakir comes from the transition from ‘Ana Abtakir’ meaning ‘I innovate’ in Arabic, to ‘Nahnu Nabtakir’ meaning ‘we innovate’ which embodies the collective journey towards a future of groundbreaking achievements.        Engie Bashir said: “The vision of this event truly came to life on 19 February. Witnessing the diverse contributions of our talented and dedicated students filled me with immense pride, and I aspire for this event to become an annual fixture on our calendar, serving as a source of inspiration for our MIH community. In the coming months, the MIH will continue to thrive and expand, enabling us to nurture even more innovative and pioneering projects from our students.” The MDX Dubai Tabtakir 2024 event shone a spotlight on the creativity of CEI students, with an opening address from Professor Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai. The event showcased thirteen innovative projects by CEI students, transforming theoretical concepts into tangible prototypes under the mentorship of esteemed supervisors Dr Judhi Prasetyo and Dr Sumitra Kotipalli.   Special recognition was given to Muhammad Siraj Bilal and Muhammad Arsal Anwar for their exceptional contributions.A key highlight of the event was the introduction of the Dubai Future Foundation's University Entrepreneurship Programme, led by Jaspreet Singh and Dr Vijaya Kumar, aimed at nurturing the entrepreneurial skills of our students. This initiative, alongside the TIE University Programme, led by Rhoderick Romano, represents a significant step towards equipping our students with the tools and mindset needed for success in the innovation-driven landscape.Together, we are not only envisioning the future but actively creating it, laying the groundwork for a world where innovation and creativity lead the way.       Join us in this celebration of innovation and entrepreneurship.
