Thesis project connects students with top industry partners
- Tuesday, 15 October 2024
Students on the MSc Data Science programme at Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai recently presented their thesis projects that were developed in collaboration with industry partners.
The event, held at MDX Dubai on 11 October 2024, celebrated the academic achievements of the students and highlighted the impressive collaborations forged between the university and prominent employers including Dubai Police, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Landmark Group, Al Futtaim IKEA, and Emirates Airline.
Organised by the university’s research committee in conjunction with the Middlesex Insights Lab, the competition provided an invaluable platform for final-year students to display their projects, engage with each other’s work and discuss the submissions with faculty, peers, and industry experts.
Dr Krishnadas Nanath said: “It was truly a celebration of the students' thesis journey, and we aim to make this an annual event.
“It serves as a vital link between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The projects exemplified the students’ ability to apply data science principles to solve complex problems, a skill highly sought after in today’s job market.”
The interactive nature of the competition allowed industry representatives to engage with students, providing valuable feedback and insights that could shape their future academic and professional careers.
The role of a data scientist is rapidly becoming a required position for any company that wishes to take full advantage of the data they collect, and therefore there is an increased demand for professionals that have the correct mix of mathematics, statistics, computer science, business acumen, and the ability to leverage emerging technologies to solve real-life problems.
