Microsoft discuss how they're using OpenAI and ChatGPT for good
- Tuesday, 7 March 2023
On 7th March 2023, Microsoft and Insights Lab, in collaboration with the MDX Centre for Innovation in Human Experience, invited students, alumni, industry professionals, faculty and virtual guests to attend a very timely and reactive discussion on ‘Harnessing OpenAI and ChatGPT to Help Millions’.
The host for our session was Rory Preddy, Principal Cloud Advocate in the Developer Relations Team for Microsoft. Cloud Advocates use their deep research skills to help professional cloud developers discover and successfully use Microsoft’s platforms.
ChatGPT is a language processing tool powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, that allows the user to ask a question or make a command, and ChatGPT will provide nearly instant informed assistance. You can request a range of responses, such as recipes, emails, coding, essays, creative ideas and inspiration, depending on your initial question.
After confirming a large investment in ChatGPT earlier this year and maintaining Microsoft Azure as the exclusive cloud provider for ChatGPT with OpenAI using it to train its models, Microsoft aims to accelerate breakthroughs in emerging AI technologies in order to benefit the world.
Using an engaging mix of slide presentations, real-time examples on the OpenAI platforms, and a sprinkling of humour, Rory showed the packed Oasis Theatre in Middlesex University Dubai’s Knowledge Park Campus a more in-depth view of how ChatGPT and it’s related OpenAI products like DALL-E2 (which acts much like ChatGPT for imagery) are growing, learning and developing at a rapid rate, and how Microsoft is planning to harness that power into their other products.
For example, Microsoft has begun incorporating the technology into everyday uses, such as generating suggested email copy, or creating summaries for documents using the contents as reference. App and web developers can begin to integrate AI-powered experiences into their own systems, with much-increased customer service bot responses, and automated claims processing. This is just the beginning of how this technology could impact the world and how we experience it.
