Future FinTech Leaders Shine Bright at Technovation 2023-24

On Wednesday 6 December 2023, Middlesex University Dubai and the Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) hosted the finale of Technovation: the sixth edition of a much-anticipated annual FinTech competition on campus.

The competition was designed to speak to the innovative spirit of Middlesex students, challenging them to brainstorm and develop ideas that disrupt the Financial Services industry by leveraging the ever-advancing capabilities of modern technology. Working in multi-disciplinary teams comprising of IT/Engineering, Finance & Accounting, and Law students, the competition is an opportunity for participants to widen their understanding of different aspects of technology, and see a viable application to their ideas.

Seven teams competed for the first prize, presenting their concepts to the judges: Kavitha Fernando, Head of Customer Solutions, QA and Marketing at Al-Futtaim Logistics; Asim Janjua, Chief of Staff and Founder of Mamo; and Dr Judhi Prasetyo, Senior Lecturer at MDX Dubai. The winning team, consisting of students Farhan Mansoor, Akshvin Uthesh, Saatwick Mishra, Mohammed Faris and Lisa Susan walked away with a cash prize of AED 1,000 for their concept Scholar Rides.

The second-place award went to Team Swift: Syed Nasiruddin, Mohammad Sohial, Chirag Kherajani, Himanshu Kimtani and Friyana Guzder.

Third place went to Team Virtugold: Amay Waykool, Arfa Kazi, Amritaa Selvaraj, Chanchal Nathani, Adhil Sajan.

It was an honour to have sponsorship from Al-Futtaim Logistics for this event: Al-Futtaim Logistics are part of Al-Futtaim Group, and are one of the largest pioneers of logistics in the UAE, reaching over 150 countries. The Group provide solutions for many secotrs including Automotive, Retail, Fashion, Food and Beverage, Industrial, Exhibitions, Events, E-Commerce and more.
