  • Thursday, 22 May 2025

Final year students from the Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) department at Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai achieved remarkable success at the recent InterSys Undergraduate Research Competition (URC).

On 5 May 2025, MDX Dubai students secured second and third place at the URC, hosted by the Microsoft Tech Club in partnership with Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani. Competing against 63 shortlisted projects selected from over 280 submissions, their success showcased the strength of research and innovation at MDX Dubai.

Muhammad Siraj Bilal, a final-year Computer Systems Engineering student, came second for his project titled iCue, an AI-powered Smart Cue Sports Assistant that integrates artificial intelligence to enhance gameplay and training in cue sports.

Afrin Fathima Razvi, a final-year Business Information Systems (BIS) student, came third for her research project Intellectus. Designed to enhance student cognitive performance, foster deeper knowledge acquisition, and reduce over-reliance on generative AI tools, Intellectus is a fine-tuned large language model (LLM) with real-world educational applications.
In addition to the award-winning entries, several other CEI students presented impressive research projects at the competition.

Muhammad Arsal Anwar and Aamir Muhammad from Computer Systems Engineering, Harsha Manoj Kumar from BIS, and Lubaba Jabeen from Cyber Security represented the university with distinction.

The students’ successes at URC 2025 reflects the university’s strong commitment to fostering a culture of research, creativity, and critical thinking.
