Transforming E-learning Experience – The Student’s Way

 

Do you have an idea that could transform the online learning of students? If so, are you interested in converting that idea into a smart application by mixing technology, business, and learning? Whether you are a dreamer or a seasoned champion, this competition is open for all UG MDX business students, all that we need is a brilliant smart application (e.g., mobile or desktop application) idea that could enhance the online teaching/learning experience of students or/and faculty. If this interests you and you are ready to grab some fantastic prizes, READ ON! Middlesex University Dubai, Business School brings you a real-world challenge in the form of student competition!

Date: Monday 12th July

Time: 10.30 – 14.30 (UAE)

Platform: Virtual Session (delivered via Team, upon registration the link will be shared)

Students can register in teams or individually. Individual students without teams will be provided with one by organisers.

Competition Objective:

The objective of the competition is for student teams (3-5) to come up with an idea that could solve or improve one or more aspects related to your online learning experience. The idea should be such that it can be converted into a smart application prototype. The ideas can come from your own experience as a student, and can range from new standalone application or additional options that can be integrated to existing online applications/platforms. This can include but not limited to enhancing student interaction, improving health and well-being of online students, to support students who are finding it difficult to focus in the online environment, or other aspects you would like to improve. The expected outcome from the competition are as follows:

Outcome 1: Smart application idea and prototype

Outcome 2: Presentation of your idea and prototype

NB: There is no IT or technical skills required for this competition. Also, no prior knowledge of smart application development is needed for participants. All we need is brilliant ideas and enthusiasm!

Workshop

All registered participants will be given a workshop on how to convert their idea into a smart application prototype. The workshop in itself is a significant learning opportunity for participants.

Mode of Competition

The competition is a virtual event through Microsoft Teams. You would need the following on the competition day – smartphone, connectivity via Microsoft Teams, pen/pencil, A4 sheets, and importantly some brilliant ideas!!

Evaluation Criteria

Your submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Originality and innovativeness of the idea for smart application
  • Practicality of the smart application (Feasible to implement, scalability, user friendliness etc.)
  • Impact of the smart application (Ability to provide solution to a problem or improves current situation)
  • Presentation style (Tone of voice, clarity of expression, precision of arguments etc.)
  • Response to questions (Ability to answer judges or audience questions)

Competition Awards

All contestants will receive E-certificate of participation. Top three teams will receive E-vouchers along with certificate of merit.

1st Price: AED 750 E-voucher for the team along with certificate of merit

2nd Price: AED 500 E-voucher for the team along with certificate of merit

3rd Price: AED 250 E-voucher for the team along with certificate of merit
