The University is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment and aspires to achieve a positive health and safety culture. This requires commitment and active co-operation by staff and students alike.
Please note all health and safety processes, practices and regulations apply to both Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City campuses.
If your health and safety questions cannot be answered with the use of the information on this site, please talk to your faculty or contact the Health and Safety team.
While using University premises, either on campus or in The Myriad accommodation, you must take reasonable care for your own and others’ safety by adopting safe working practices and making proper use of the safety facilities provided.
You are required to comply with the University’s Health and Safety Policies, and codes of practice.
Fire Safety
For your own safety please always follow the fire precautions and rules as stated in university premises.
- Read fire safety notices
- Do not tamper with, obstruct or remove any notice or equipment provided for fire safety
- Make yourself familiar with the emergency escape routes from your classroom, floor, common room etc.
- Do not obstruct fire routes or doors
- Keep fire doors closed
Personal Safety
Although Dubai is a very safe place to live and study, for your own safety and protection, please always be aware of your surroundings and belongings at all times. Should you become concerned about the health and safety of a classmate, please let a member of faculty or a member of the CAS team know as soon as possible.
Take care with your valuables and use zipped bags and pockets for their protection from loss or theft.
Make sure you enjoy Dubai’s year-round sunshine to the fullest by always wearing sunscreen, drink plenty of water and take regular breaks in the shade. It’s also advisable to wear a hat and sunglasses to further protect your skin, and during summer be aware that the sun is strongest between 11am and 3pm.
If you feel unwell let someone know and, in an emergency, dial 998 for immediate medical care and transportation to a hospital. Please ensure you have up to date next of kin contact information registered on MDX Campus Central.
When entering any laboratories or practical spaces you must adhere to the faculty rules and regulations regarding the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

- click on any unknown links sent by text messages
- download any apps from unknown sources.
Users should:
- keep backup copies of personal data
- update smartphone operating systems periodically
- follow the security alerts issued by phone manufacturers.
Electrical Safety
The University owned portable appliances are tested annually and all wiring is tested every five years. You must not interfere with any electrical installation equipment or fitting provided by the University.
The electricity supply in the UAE is 230 volts AC at a frequency of 50Hz. Electrical sockets (G Type) in the UAE are the 13-amp rectangular pin type and the plugs fitted to portable appliances are generally supplied with a 13-amp fuse. The fuse should be selected to suit the load of the equipment being used. All personal electrical equipment including plugs and adaptors must conform to the appropriate UAE standard with the UAE (EQM) mark of conformity CE mark.

Do not overload your electrical sockets as this can be very dangerous and result in a fire. Multi-plug adaptors must not be used.
