We are pleased to invite you to our Wednesday Research Seminar. It will be held in hybrid mode on 7th February from 4pm at Oasis Theatre and via Microsoft team platform. Wednesday Research Seminar Series was launched in 2008 and has featured more than 345 presentations to date. The seminars provide a forum for researchers to share their work. Presenters include faculty from Middlesex University Dubai and other universities in the United Arab Emirates, as well as researchers from other global institutions. Ambreen will deliver seminar on:
“Swarm Robotics in Real Life Applications"
Judhi Prasetyo and Eliseo Ferrante
Abstract
Bio-inspired swarm robotics presents a promising paradigm for addressing complex social problems by leveraging principles observed in natural collective behaviors. This seminar session explores various benefits of employing swarm robotics in solving social issues, drawing insights from real research papers. The inherent decentralized nature of swarm systems enables adaptability, robustness, and scalability, crucial attributes for tackling dynamic and interconnected societal challenges. By examining existing literature, we highlight the practical applications of bio-inspired swarm robotics in various domains such as disaster response, traffic management, and environmental monitoring.
Presenter Bios
Dr. Judhi Prasetyo, Senior Lecturer, Head & Founder of the RoboTechX Lab at Middlesex University Dubai is a Dubai-based lecturer, researcher and information and communication technology entrepreneur. For the past three decades, Judhi has been providing professional services to various verticals including government entities and law enforcement agencies in more than 15 countries. His special interest is in using technology for socially responsible activities to improve the quality of life. Judhi conducts lectures, workshops and mentoring of computer electronics focusing on IoT and robotics for university students and general public. He also involved in various industry activities.
Dr. Eliseo Ferrante is a visiting faculty at Middlesex University Dubai and an tenured Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Formerly, he was a Vice President at the Autonomous Robotics Research Center at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), a cutting-edge UAE-based scientific research center, responsible for carrying out advanced research, with a focus on bio-inspired control methods for swarms of heterogeneous robots (on land, air, and water) and self-organized communication networks. Dr Ferrante’s research focuses on swarm robotics studies from an interdisciplinary perspective, comprising computational, statistical physics, and evolutionary models of collective behavior. Some of the phenomena he studies include collective motion, aggregation, task specialization, and collective decision-making in artificial agents and robots. His methodological expertise includes computer simulations, real robot experiments, and evolutionary and mathematical models. He applies these methodologies to the control of large swarms of robots that could be deployed in a variety of environments such as land, air or water.
Look forward to seeing you at the seminar!
