What to Expect at your Week of Welcome

It's always thrilling and nerve-racking to start university and many people find the move from high school to further education intimidating. Yet your first week at university, known at Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai as the Week of Welcome, sets the tone for the rest of your academic journey. This week at MDX Dubai is all about assisting you in being comfortable, meeting new people, and becoming familiar with your new environment. Here are some things to look forward to during the Week of Welcome, as told by current student Kenric Baben: 

During my Week of Welcome, the wide range of social events planned for incoming students aimed at assisting them in getting to know other students was one of the highlights. These events offer a vibrant setting where you can meet individuals from different backgrounds and form friendships to help you get through your time at the university. They hosted stalls for every club established at the university throughout Week of Welcome, along with various engaging performances and activities to engage all incoming students. I have a laid-back, introverted personality, so I had trouble striking up conversations with new individuals. However, the current students at the time made me feel welcome and encouraged me to participate in all the events and have an enjoyable experience. It was a great chance for us to learn about different student organisations and clubs. 

At Week of Welcome, you will meet coordinators from numerous clubs, from sports clubs to cultural groups. During my experience at Week of Welcome, the existing students helped me understand the various clubs and opportunities offered, creating a welcoming environment for us. It was a great opportunity to ask questions, learn about different interests, and sign up for activities that intrigue your curiosity. I found that joining sports or social clubs was an excellent way to integrate into campus life, and many students find it one of the best ways to make friends and pursue their passions.

Week of Welcome is packed with activities and events to introduce you to campus life, and the university had a variety of collaborations with different brands that came in during the welcome week. You get to enjoy diverse brand collaborations where you can participate in exciting opportunities and win numerous gifts, making it a memorable start to your college experience. 

The week kicks off with a series of introductory lectures and workshops that cover essential information about your course and university life. You will likely attend an orientation lecture where you'll receive important details about your programme, including module information, assessment methods, and timetabling. This initial guidance helps you understand what to expect in the coming weeks and introduces you to the academic staff and resources available.

In addition to academic introductions, the volunteers offer various campus tours to help you get familiar with your surroundings. These activities are beneficial for locating lecture theatres, libraries, essential facilities, and other key areas you will frequently visit at Middlesex University Dubai. As Week of Welcome progresses, you will engage more with your academic schedule. By the end of the week, you should have a clear idea of where your lectures and seminars will be held. The initial academic sessions, including lectures and introductory seminars, provide a glimpse into the format and expectations of your course.

You should feel more assured and eager to begin your journey at MDX Dubai by the end of the Week of Welcome. The week aims to give you the resources and connections to settle into campus life without any difficulties.
