Knowledge Cafe: An Introduction on Student Wellness Support Groups

  • Sunday, 26 January 2020

On Tuesday 21 January, Middlesex University Dubai’s Quality Office held its 11th Knowledge Café of 2019-2020. This session was organised by the University’s Taskforce for Happiness and Wellbeing and focused on its weekly student ‘Wellness Support Groups’, facilitated by Aditi Bhatia, Lecturer in Psychology. The groups are a peer-driven initiative aimed at creating a safe and non-judgmental environment that allows students to openly discuss their issues, connect with others that may be facing similar challenges, and to support those who are going through a difficult time.

Staff members who attended the Knowledge Café were able to benefit from familiarising themselves with the work of these groups in case they wish to refer students. Both faculty and staff discussed the functioning of the support groups, identifying students who may need support, and providing a pathway to refer students who can benefit from this platform.
