Accounting and Finance Students receive SAGE Certificates

  • Wednesday, 6 February 2019

Students studying BA Honours Accounting and Finance were recently awarded with SAGE Certificates. This is a unique study programme designed specifically with a view to providing students with a platform to gain valuable experience in real world applications of the SAGE accounting software whilst enhancing their accounting skills.

The programme is regarded as an industry benchmark as it carries certifications from two pioneering institutions, CIMA (one of the most well-known names in accounting certifications), and SAGE (a company which provides software to the majority of small and medium enterprises in the UK).

The programme is designed to provide first year students with a firm foundation in computerised accounting on the popular SAGE accounting system. Students were given a copy of SAGE 50 Accounts Professional Software. Along with this, they were provided access to an online learning portal to facilitate independent studying. The portal provided them with study materials, practice tests, formative assessments, examples, quizzes and more – directly from SAGE. Although it was a self-study programme, several drop-in sessions were organised by Pallavi Kishore (Campus Programme Coordinator, Accounting and Finance) to make sure that students did not lose track and were able to maintain focus.

Upon completion of the course, SAGE tested participants in an invigilated online test held at the University campus. The phenomenal performance is attributed to the hard work and dedication of the students. 40% of the students successfully received SAGE certification, while another 55% received SAGE awareness certificates. This is an accredited benchmarked standards certificate which shows future employers that the candidate has the required practical skills and greatly enhances the employability of our students – something the University is dedicated towards.
