On Friday 15 November 2017 Middlesex University Dubai Law Students had the opportunity to attend a guest lecture by Dr Thomas Walford on the 'Role of the Expert Witness' at the Oasis Theatre.
Thomas acts as an expert witness in Private Banking, Investment Management and Wealth Management matters and has extensive experience of high court litigation in a variety of jurisdictions including DIFC courts, Singapore, Hawaii and the UK.
Thomas discussed how the role of the expert witness has evolved over the years, particularly with the civil law reforms in the UK. He also provided students with valuable insights into instructing an expert - tips that hopefully they will be able to use in practice. Thomas has also recently been accepted to act as an expert in the Dubai courts on financial and investment matters.
Thomas's work has meant that he was recently involved in some high value claims in the DIFC courts. As our students are familiar with the DIFC court system and several high profile cases he took questions from the students on some of the issues arising out of these complex financial claims. He will hopefully be a regular visitor to Middlesex and keep us updated on the various cases he has involvement with.
