The Middlesex Business School winning streak continues in 2014! For the second year in a row a team from Middlesex, consisting of 3rd Year BA Hons Accounting and Finance students Arnav Shewakramani, Akash Cherwani, Tanya Mathews and Jaykishin Kataria, was the runner up at the prestigious annual KPMG Ace the Case competition held on Thursday, February 6, 2014. The Middlesex team was the only undergraduate team out of the four that made it through to the finals, beating two MBA teams to take second place.
Eight teams were selected by KPMG to take part in the competition out of 135 applicants across the UAE. The competition consisted of two rounds. In the first round, all 8 teams presented their strategies for Samsung’s attack on Apple to sustain its position in the smartphone market. Four teams were then selected for the final round and further presentations.
The judges were very impressed with the Middlesex team and highlighted the strength of their business strategies and their confidence. The students were thrilled to make it to the finals and place second. They each won an eBook reader.
The students were mentored by Dr Vijaya Kumar, Senior Lecturer in Accounting, who has an impressive track record in reaching the top in prestigious competitions, at the local, regional and global level. Following the event, Dr Kumar commented: “This is a fantastic success and highlights once more, the strong reputation of our students, our staff and our programmes in the business community.”
