Fifty students from the School of Science and Technology, Middlesex University Dubai, enthusiastically attended a day trip on October 23, 2013 to the GITEX exhibition, held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, one of the largest IT exhibitions held annually in the Gulf region. This year, the event provided a huge platform for connecting domestic and international IT vendors. International exhibitors were up 26% compared to last year, and a total of 61 countries were present, including newcomers Belarus, Brazil and Finland, providing a fantastic opportunity for students to not only update their knowledge about the latest technologies and the fast-changing trends in the digital world but also to network with professionals in the IT industry.
Abayomi Sanda, 3rd year IT student described the event as “an eye opener that provided more than a surface details of what goes on in the IT power houses like Oracle, IBM and Cisco.” For many students this is their most awaited IT filed trip while for a few new students this was the “first ever technology exhibition I have ever been to”, exclaimed Ngbor Dornbari King, 3rd year IT and BIS student.
In addition to cloud computing and green computing which were the highlights of past year’s GITEX, there was great buzz 3D printing and touch technologies.
The students were accompanied by IT faculty members Ms. Engie Bashir and Dr. Fehmida Hussain.
