- Wednesday, 23 February 2022
On 20th February 2022, Rhoderick Romano, Lecturer in Management, took part in a panel discussion at the Polish Pavilion at Expo 2020 that focused on supporting student entrepreneurship and shedding light on the roles that universities can play in this thriving economic ecosystem. The event was organised by Innovations Hub Foundation, a Polish-based platform that aims to popularise entrepreneurial attitudes among young people in Poland and across the globe and accelerate the growth of innovative business ventures.
Rhoderick was joined on the panel by fellow experts in entrepreneurship and sustainability in business, who explored the concept of innovation and the challenges and opportunities offered by entrepreneurship from a variety of perspectives. Attendees learnt how different stakeholders in the entrepreneurship sector, such as start-up incubators, student founders, academics, private firms and policymakers, have developed their own initiatives and how they can use their own networks in academia and industry to develop an innovative business idea.
Rhoderick Romano said: “It was a great honour to represent Middlesex University Dubai and the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Expo 2020 and collaborate with peers and young aspirants on their journey towards entrepreneurship. I felt the event embodied the Expo theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ well due to the richness of the discussion and spirited participation from attendees.”
This event is the latest in an extensive series of initiatives that Middlesex University Dubai has participated in at Expo 2020. The University’s Head of Education Alison Burrows has partnered with Dubai Cares to provide a free training series for teachers and educators about how the UN Sustainable Development Goals can be incorporated into the classroom, and over 90 Middlesex students have secured internships at Expo 2020 and are currently serving in a variety of roles across the global mega-event. Professor Evangelos Moustakas, Head of the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Head of Post Graduate Business Dubai, has also served as Sustainability Pavilion Team Leader.
