MDX celebrates multinational community with the return of highly anticipated 13th International Day event

Our Knowledge Park campus was a hive of activity on December 9th, as Middlesex University Dubai celebrated the highly anticipated 13th International Day. The event was particularly noteworthy as it marked our safe return to in person events, following the virtual International Day held in 2020.
The latest installment of this annual event was opened by Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Middlesex University Dubai and Lulu Baddar, Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality, with our wonderful hosts Aakanksha and Thenoura overseeing proceedings.
The return saw a spectacular display of 23 stalls, each dedicated to a country and collectively representing our multinational student base. As always, the stalls were created and executed by students at MDX who are proud to showcase their heritage within this wonderfully diverse city that we call home.
Sharing a unique glimpse into culture and customs, stands were adorned with carefully curated offerings such as souvenirs, hand crafted jewellery, and local delicacies, as well as informative displays, national dress items and cultural art pieces. With such impressive contributions, the competition was fierce for the coveted ‘Best Stall’ awards, with Uganda and Bangladesh taking the tied top spot, closely followed by India and Egypt in joint second, with Uzbekistan taking the podium in third place.
Those attending the International Day event enjoyed 17 impressive performances throughout the day which celebrated diversity and tradition amongst our community. The varied lineup showcased the broad range of talent within the student body, with gifted musicians, singers and dancers all delivering memorable performance pieces.
The large event was enjoyed by a wide audience of MDX students, staff, and the general public in the Knowledge Park area, and whilst still closely observing current health and safety precautions, it was a welcome return to in-person events. We at MDX are proud to celebrate our cosmopolitan community of over 118 nationalities!
