Welcome Message from Dr Cedwyn Fernandes

Welcome to the start of a brand new academic year! Walking around campus, it’s been wonderful to see so many new and happy faces and hear voices and laughter throughout our halls and classrooms. You can feel the excitement of being back on campus, which is truly amazing.
The 2021-2022 academic year marks a landmark year for our community. I am very proud to say that we have welcomed our largest ever intake of new students from across the world this September. A huge welcome to all 1,500 of you and also to all our returning students!
We have also opened our second campus in Dubai International Academic City, an innovative learning space that is open for all MDX Dubai students to use and enjoy! We’re hosting a series of exciting activities there in the second week of term – I invite you all to visit and experience all DIAC has to offer.
It’s been a challenging period for everyone worldwide over the last 18 months. But I am proud to say that at Middlesex University Dubai we have got through this together. We have achieved amazing things and stayed connected, getting used to distance learning and conducting all our student activities online.
This academic year, many of our new and returning students are transitioning back to face-to-face classes. I can imagine that you are all delighted to be making new friends and seeing classmates for the first time in a while – and I urge you to do this safely and securely.
There are health and safety regulations across campus to keep you safe and comfortable while you are studying and using our state-of-the-art facilities at Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City. If you have any questions about what we’re doing to keep you safe, you can reach out to our Health and Safety Team.
Whether you are a new or returning student this year, you are experiencing the best days of your life. University is your chance to find out who you really are and what you want to do after you graduate. Your faculty and I are here to support and empower you to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way as you embark on this exciting journey!
