Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics successfully concluded Strategic IS Conclave where 45 students competed in groups to become the ultimate Information Systems (IS) consultants of 2017-18. This event was conceptualised by Dr Krishnadas Nanath in October 2017, when eight student groups started working with eight industry mentors from IBM, Emirates, Masafi, Aster Group, Fetchr, RBBi, Al Futtaim and Binani Group. The event was part of the Strategic IS module for BIS/IT students in Computer Engineering and Informatics department.
All eight groups prepared their analysis, findings, and recommendations for the company they worked with and presented their report on 29th January and 5th February 2018. Their presentations were judged and evaluated by the industry mentors (from the participating companies) who played a critical role in providing constructive feedback and assessing the feasibility of group recommendations for the firm. One of the key ideas behind this initiative was to expose student groups to real industry problems and get live feedback from senior corporate professionals. Corporate mentors for this conclave were Ms. Alia Badreldin (Strategy Leader, IBM), Mr. Neetan Chopra (Senior Vice President, Emirates), Mr. Puneet Verma (Analytics Manager, Fetchr), Mr. Juno Srivatava (Business Solution IT Manager, Al-Futtaim), Mr. Amol Kadam (Co-Founder, RBBi), Ms. Bhawana Sahu (Marketing Manager, Aster Group), Ms. Mariola (HR Manager, Binani Group) and Mr. Krishna Kumar (Innovation Head, Masafi). Other than the mentors, two external judges were invited to judge the presentations Mr. Sameer Sortur (CEO, SquareCircleTech) and Ms. Rekha Setpal (Head, Dubai Internet City).
Team-Emirates (Ali Sajjad, Ayesha Hasib, Kaavish Hussain, Aamir Khan, and Sohail Ahmed) emerged as overall winners, and their recommendations were highly appreciated by the corporate partners and judges. The second prize was bagged by Team- Fetchr and most creative presentation award was given to Team-Masafi.
