INK: Middlesex University Short Story and Poetry competition celebrates the work of the region’s aspiring authors and poets.
Open to all university students within the UAE, winners of this year’s competition represented
On 6 December, the UAE’s best aspiring poets and writers came out to celebrate at the 2nd annual INK: Middlesex University Short Story and Poetry awards ceremony at Middlesex University Dubai’s Knowledge Park campus.
Open to all students enrolled in University courses in the UAE, participants submitted their work under one of three categories; Short Story, Poetry Under 21 and Poetry Over 21.
Showcasing the region’s finest, young poets and authors, this year’s competition received entries from students attending a range of universities, including the American University of Dubai, Middlesex University Dubai, United Arab Emirates University and Manipal University.
“The UAE has a vivid creative writing scene and Middlesex University Dubai is committed to fostering the minds of tomorrow’s authors and poets; INK gives us the opportunity to showcase these talents to the region, and the world,” said Louise Edensor, Senior Lecturer, Media and Education. “On behalf of Middlesex University Dubai, I would like to congratulate this year’s entrants and winners. I look forward to seeing their work in the future.”
The INK Writing Competition Winners:

1st Prize – ‘The Homelessness’ by Lynn Soueid from the American University of Dubai
2nd Prize – ‘The Thin line between love and Hate’ by Carol Sachdeva from Bits Pilani University
3rd Prize – ‘Blinded’ by Stancia Mathias from University of Woollongong
Poetry Under 21:
1st Prize – ‘Story of a Girl from Another World’ by Sidra Raihan from Bits Pilani University
2nd Prize – ‘Dear Daughter’ by Mehak Srivastava from Manipal University
3rd Prize – ‘What were you like together?’ by Lynn Soueid from the American University of Dubai
Poetry Over 21:
1st Prize – ‘Perfect Imperfections of Change’ by Nuru Salim from United Arab Emirates University
2nd Prize – ‘A Portrait of Incurable Vices’ by Tavin D’Souza from Murdoch University
3rd Prize – ‘You did not Die’ by Sobia Younis from Abu Dhabi University
