The first and second year Advertising and Public Relations students took part in this year’s International Advertising Association’s Apprentice Conference. Organized by the IAA’s New York office in conjunction with the local chapter, it was held at the Emirates Group Learning & Development Building of the Emirates Aviation College on November 11 and 12. The two-day intensive programme offered a blend of wisdom and insight as well as a “behind the scenes” look into ad industry hiring.
Speakers and panelists represented experienced leaders of the regional and international ad industry, Advertising students from overseas traveled to Dubai for the conference. Countries represented from the region included Lebanon, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. A large contingent of Australian students from Edith Cowan University in Perth were the conference volunteers. MDX students provided the conference ice breaker which was judged to be a big success for introducing attendees to each other.
Conference topics included :
- Navigating the transition from university to a career in advertising;
- The new ad industry employment landscape – what kinds of jobs are there and where?
- The view from media, media agencies, digital specialists, creative agencies and the client side; an overview of the latest industry trends.
- Activities in public speaking and presentation skills for the job market also took place to prepare students for future employment.
