  • Monday, 5 October 2015

Middlesex University Dubai is gearing up for an exciting new academic year with an enhanced program list and a laboratory facilities.

The Dubai campus will introduce the undergraduate Computer Engineering program, a popular subject already being offered at the London Campus. It will initially consist of two programmes - BEng Honours Computer Systems Engineering and BEng Honours Computer Communications and Networks. Both are three-year courses and are tailored for students aspiring for a fulfilling career in the computing systems design, application development or network design and management areas.

The highly-anticipated Physical Computing and Engineering (PCE) Lab was unveiled on the 4th October, 2015 at the Middlesex University Dubai with much excitement. The University Director, Dr. Cedwyn Fernandes inaugurated the new lab in the presence of Deputy Director Dr. Cody Paris, Department of Engineering and Informatics Programme Coordinator, Dr Fehmida Hussain, faculty Dr.Krishnadas Nanath, Engie Bashir, Jaspreet Sethi, Santhosh Menon and IT Manager Naveed Akhtar as well as first year engineering students. Following this, a tour of the new facility was conducted. Students were thrilled to explore the fully-equipped lab and keenly look forward to using the facility.

The fully-equipped, state-of-the-art electro-static discharge (ESD) compliant lab is the first facility of its kind for a University in this region and offers an environment where sensitive electronic equipment can be tested and studied safely without ESD damage to the delicate electronic components. The students will have the modular electronic lab ELVIS from NI for working on electronic hardware along with other testing equipment's likes oscilloscopes, power generators and simulation software like MultiSim and LabView. In addition, all currently operating computer labs have been upgraded with a Cisco Net Academy furnished with Routers, Switches and Cisco software for network simulation and training.

These facilities provide the latest technology exposure to the student in addition to an opportunity to hone their engineering skills. The additions are part of the University’s mission in providing the best in terms of courses and in preparing its students to face the competitive world of computing and business with know-how and confidence.

The Department of Engineering and Informatics is led by Dr. Fehmida Hussain supported by highly qualified faculty.
