For the 5th year in a row, faculty and staff of Middlesex University Dubai have attended the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development (DIHAD) conference and exhibition held at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre from 24-26 March 2015. This year, twenty five students and five faculty members from the School of Law programmes including the MA International Relations, L.L.B (Honours), BA (Honours) International Politics, BA (Honours) International Development, and BSc (Honours) Global Social Science.
According to Dr. Cody Morris Paris, Associate Professor and Programme Coordinator of Social Science programmes at Middlesex University Dubai, “DIHAD is an important annual event for our students. It provides an opportunity for them to interact with global leaders and institutions, as well as hear about current challenges and solutions emerging from the field.” At DIHAD this year, students had the opportunity to attend keynote speeches from HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, UN Messenger of Peace and Chairperson of International Humanitarian City, and other prominent members of the international humanitarian aid community.
Additionally, DIHAD provided an excellent forum for students to discuss career opportunities with businesses, international organizations and NGOs at the exhibition. As Donya Saberi, studying on the MA in International Relations programme, shared, “Attending DIHAD is a great experience to see how discussions from our classes relate to experiences of professionals from the field. It is also a great platform for networking with professionals and NGOs.” Dr Belisa Marochi, Senior Lecturer in International Relations who also attended the event, agreed and noted that, “DIHAD provided students with a special opportunity to build their networks and meet experts in the field of humanitarian aid and development.”
