More than AED 15 million in scholarships awarded for academic year 2016/17
Over 150 students from a wide range of nationalities and disciplines were awarded.
Middlesex University Dubai held a special ceremony on Wednesday 23 November to honour this year’s recipients of academic scholarships. Taking place at Oasis Theatre at Middlesex University Dubai’s Knowledge Park campus, the ceremony recognised more than 150 of the highest achieving students, with awards including the Academic Excellence Scholarship, Top Student Scholarship, and Sports and Cultural Excellence Scholarship.
Each academic year, Middlesex University Dubai awards outstanding students from a scholarship fund valued at over AED15 million. Scholars are chosen based on the grades they have obtained either at high school or while at the university, with scholarships ranging in value between AED20,000 to AED90,000 per student.
Guests at this year’s scholarship ceremony were welcomed by Dr. Cody Paris, Deputy Director, Middlesex University Dubai. During the opening Dr. Paris congratulated the students on all of their hard work. “It is always a pleasure to recognize and support student success. The students awarded today are the embodiment of our goal of providing a transformative learning experience both inside and outside the classroom.” Students receiving scholarships for academic excellence were presented with their awards by Dr. Cedwyn Fernandes, Director, Middlesex University Dubai. This was followed by awards for outstanding achievement in sport and returning topper students, which were presented by Dr. Paris.
“It is always a great pleasure to honour the achievements of our students, and to recognise their outstanding efforts from this past academic year,” said Dr. Fernandes. “At Middlesex University Dubai we understand the importance of recognising and rewarding excellence, and hope that our scholars continue to be inspired by their learning and go on to achieve even bigger and better things.”
This year’s scholarship recipients represented a diverse range of nationalities and backgrounds, a testament to the multi-national and multi-cultural student body who currently attend the wide selection of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes available at Middlesex University Dubai. The awards were divided between both male and female students, with slightly more female students receiving scholarships than their male counterparts for 2016.
“It is heartening to see that our scholars offer a true representation of the diverse student body we have at Middlesex University Dubai,” Dr. Fernandes added. “As an institution, we consider ourselves a global university and are committed to promoting diversity and providing a world-class education to students from all backgrounds, reflecting Dubai’s melting pot of cultures and nationalities.”
