Q1. What made you choose Middlesex University Dubai?

I had wanted to pursue psychology and found out that MDX offered a counseling course so it was like a dream come true.

Q2. What aspects of your course did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed it overall but if I had to pinpoint a few aspects I would say the counseling workshops which helped us put to practice what we'd learnt and also the way our professors made it fun for us to learn.

Q3. What is your fondest memory of life at Middlesex?

Hanging out with my group of friends at the student lounge and food court and of course there are more but those are the memories that I will always cherish.

Q4. What one piece of advice would you give to a prospective student interested in studying at Middlesex?

MDX is a world of its own. I enjoyed my three years there and I hope to come back there one day. It really taught me to fight and overcome challenges, to think for myself and to be confident.

Q5. Where has your professional life taken you since graduation?

I've worked in a school counseling team and I am now currently working for a charity organisation as a Customer Relations Director and along with that I am an Assistant Counselor. I'm definitely looking to pursue my masters and hopefully my PhD in the next two years.

Q6. Can you give an example of a time when you put the things you learned at Middlesex to practical use?

My job is such where I do get to counsel people but along with that I'm working with teenagers so I am applying the knowledge and experience I gained every day.

Q7. What made you choose the industry you work in and what are its pros and cons?

I loved the idea of psychology and I will say that I didn't choose it, it chose me! Psychology helps people in different ways and really brings to light different issues that people could be going through. It's a developing science and every day something new is being found. As for cons, maybe the fact that many countries haven't yet opened up to the idea of psychology completely so it can be  a bit limiting.

Q8. What are the top three tips you would give to current students and recent graduates who are looking for a similar career to yourself?

Whatever you do in life make sure you enjoy doing it for yourself and you aren’t doing it for others.

Don't stress out about where life will take you. In short don't be too hard on yourself either while studying or after graduation.

It may be necessary for you to pursue your masters degree as this sets the foundations - at least for the course I did.

Q9. What one piece of advice would you give to the 17/18 year old you?

Just do whatever you enjoy doing. Don't try to please other people.
