Professional Associations and Fellowships
Professor Kevin Hannam BA(Hons) PhD FRGS is Professor of Tourism Mobilities at Middlesex University, Dubai. He is also a senior research fellow at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a PhD and a BA(Hons) First Class in geography from the University of Portsmouth, UK. Previously he held positions as Head of Tourism & Languages at Edinburgh Napier University, Director of Doctoral Programmes at Leeds Beckett University and Associate Dean (Research) and Head of Tourism, Hospitality and Events at the University of Sunderland, UK.
He has edited and authored/co-authored ten books and over 100 academic articles and book chapters. He is founding co-editor of the academic journals Mobilities and Applied Mobilities (both published by Routledge/Taylor and Francis). He is also a resource editor for the journal Annals of Tourism Research and serves on the Editorial Boards of the journals Tourist Studies, the International Journal of Tourism Anthropology, the Journal of Heritage Tourism and Tourism Geographies. He is currently vice-chair of the Association for Tourism and Leisure Education and Research (ATLAS), a member of the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 1998.
Kevin has led major research projects in various fields including demographic change, human resource management, health and leisure mobilities, tourism planning and development and tourism education. He has supervised the dissertations of more than 300 postgraduate and undergraduate students as well as 20 doctoral students to completion. As external examiner he has also examined 32 doctoral candidates in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Mauritius, India, Denmark, Sweden, Spain and France.
Professor Hannam teaches on the undergraduate and postgraduate tourism and media programmes, research methods and supervises dissertations more widely across the Business School.
