Middlesex University Dubai, in cooperation with Microsoft, established the “Future Lawyers Network”, a network of students and legal professionals. The aim of the network is to provide students and junior legal professionals with an opportunity to maximize career prospects by connecting them with industry professionals who can share experiences, resources and insights on how to get started and build a successful career in the legal profession in the UAE.
The Network meetings are held every 4 to 6 weeks through different interactive sessions such as panel discussions, workshops, round-table discussions, and social/networking events. Till date, Future Lawyers Network have delivered three successful sessions.
In the first session, the road to qualification, professionals were keen to share their individual stories and personal experiences with students, shedding light onto key issues, such as getting their foot into the legal profession and choosing a jurisdiction to qualify. The Second session, non-conventional career paths for law graduates, explored several alternative paths and non-conventional career opportunities available for law graduates, highlighting the significance of a law degree in not only preparing students for a legal career, but also in offering a strong foundation for a continuous learning journey.
Most recently, on 17th April 2017, an exciting session was hosted in the DIFC Courts, exclusively led by esteemed DIFC Dispute Resolution Authority CEO, Mark Beer. The session introduced the Dispute Resolution Authority, under which the DIFC Courts and Academy of Law fall under. An inspirational speaker, Mark Beer, provided students with an insight on his position, career trajectory and how he overcame obstacles and challenges that led to his success today. He left students highly motivated with the four rules to his success; mentorship, networking, tenacity and hard work!
