Middlesex University Dubai students recently excelled at an Inter-university competition Two of our undergraduate Teams finished as Runners-up at the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Team A was represented by students Vishal, Rushabh, Alan, Karthika and Cherita while Team B included Thelma, Manohar and Atef.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an Annual Global Competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst and are tested on their ability to value a stock, write an initiation-of-coverage report, and present their recommendation (Buy, Sell or Hold). The competition has three levels – local, regional and global. This year, at the local level, the students evaluated the stock for the telecommunications giant – du.
The presentations were observed and evaluated by a panel of three judges, all CFA charter holders and working at prestigious companies in the region. Our students competed with postgraduate and undergraduate students from SP Jain, BITS Pilani, Heriot Watt University and American University of Dubai to win the runners up spot.
This is a great learning platform for the students as they get hands-on experience with real company analysis and interact with judges from the industry. Additionally, the students are provided with industry mentors along with faculty mentors who went great lengths in coaching the students well beyond the class-room. Teams A and B were mentored by Ms Mariam Aslam and Dr Sudipa Majumdar respectively, with substantial support from Ms Rashita Puthiya and Ms Pallavi Kishore.
