Sharing a commitment to high quality legal education and appreciating the benefits of linking the legal profession to academia, FICHTE Legal and MDX Dubai (Department of Law and Politics) have established a collaboration in legal education and training through the development of joint undertakings.
Under this partnership, Teresa Starr, Barrister at FICHTE Legal is offering a series of advocacy skills training workshops to twelve Final Year LLB students. The programme involves a six training sessions throughout the academic year, which will conclude with a mock trial to be held in the DIFC Courts.
The first workshop was held on Tuesday 27 September 2016. During the advocacy workshop the students were engaged in a number of exercises such as the art of persuasion, cross examination and examination in chief.
"I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to step into the practical world of advocacy through these workshops. What distinguishes this workshop from our university classes is that we are learning not only in theory but also in practice, this is an essential skill that is necessary for any aspiring lawyer. The workshops are stimulating and interesting as we are given the chance to act as actual advocates to teach us the complex techniques barristers require."
-Alia El Abiary Final Year LLB student.
"We are grateful and excited to have the opportunity to attend the advocacy workshops conducted by Fichte & Co. Being third year LLB students, we have learnt a lot of theory and participated in various moots, however, I believe that this workshop will teach us the essential practical techniques that we require for stepping out of university and into the legal profession.Likewise, the opportunity to participate in a moot at the DIFC courts at the end of the workshop series will enable us to put our newly acquired advocacy skills to use straight away."
-Ruby Shaniah, Final Year LLB student.
"The advocacy workshop we attended yesterday was very interesting and helpful. It gave us an insight on the practical aspects of persuading judges/juries and of cross examination. The upcoming workshops will most definitely be anticipated.
Thank you for the opportunity."
