Marketing Masters talk to Middlesex Masters in Marketing Students!

27/02/2016

Finalists on Middlesex University Dubai’s prestigious Masters of Arts in Marketing Communication (MAMC) programme came face to face with four of the leading lights in Dubai’s marketing avant-garde at the recent “MAMC off-site experience” staged at the Fairmont the Palm on Saturday 27th February 2016.

Mr. Faraz Siddiqui, DvM = Developing Market of Reckitt Benckiser (RB) was opening batsman for the event and shared his years of experience in the field as a marketing veteran with sound technology acumen. Mr. Faraz has been on both sides; in the commercial, selling and marketing technology as well as in the service delivery role, helping organizations maximize ROI on technology spend. With a German and British heritage, RB’s commitment to producing top quality, trusted medicines, medical devices, hygiene and other home products has shaped its history of strong financial performance coupled with social responsibility.

The MAMC is unique in the region and covers the key subjects related to marketing communications as a strategic marketing tool, including an analysis of the core components of marketing communications, such as advertising, public relations and sales promotions as well as digital marketing and advertising. Both traditional and new media forms are examined and their effectiveness analysed in the context of durable products, fast-moving consumer goods, services and social marketing campaigns.

Mr. Tamer Nahas, Founder and CEO of BOLDtalks talked to the students next and enthralled the audience with his passion of staging cutting edge events in Dubai and further afield. Mr. Tamer talked BOLDLY (pun intended) us about the birth of his unusual concept of BOLDtalks events in 2009, the uphill battle in “turning the unusual into mainstream” and what has become the most thought-provoking event in the region. A few years ago BOLDtalks hosted a conversation between a Guantanamo Bay ex-prisoner and his ex-guard. This is BOLD enough but the moderator for the event was none other than Professor Philip Zimbardo whose groundbreaking work includes the Stamford Prison Experiment, a benchmark in psychology and human behavior.

MAMC Coordinator Dr. Alun Epps stated that “The MAMC team is keen to get experts in from the “real world” to engage with the students and this event sees over a century of marketing excellence show-cased in a matter of hours. Ultimately, there is an assessment based on the day but it is taken for granted that those present will gain immeasurably from interacting with leading lights in the local marketing and entrepreneurial community”.

After an excellent lunch at the Flow Restaurant, Mr. Sam Sayadan, Co-Founder of The Cycle Hub enchanted the audience and educated a packed house on the lifestyle-shift that his brand encompasses. Focused on delivering exceptional customer service benchmarked on corporate account management, with the wisdom and support Mr. Khalid Al Zarooni, the other partner in this movement, The Cycle Hub has taken two international cycling brands SPECIALIZED and PINARELLO to the forefront of cycling in the region and created a wonderful community here in the UAE.

Students taking the Middlesex MAMC, develop knowledge, skills and capabilities to an advanced level in market research as well as strategic marketing and decision-making. An emphasis on strategic marketing gives delegates the skills to participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of organisation-wide decisions related to competition, products and consumers.

The last speaker of the day was Ms. Poonam Rajpara who is the EMEA Systems Digital Marketing Manager at Oracle who talked about modern marketing at her organization. The Oracle Corporation is an American global computer technology corporation, headquartered in Redwood City, California. Ms. Poonam engaged the audience about the age of the empowered customer, how the role of marketing has changed, the five tenets of modern marketing, the customer lifecycle – buyer journey and persona digital body language.
