DTEC Field Trip for the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics students


The students of the Engineering Program went on a field trip to the Dubai Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (DTEC) on November 15th, 2015, which is a purpose-built start-up business centre to accommodate and support young technology companies. DTEC startup facility at Dubai Silicon Oasis. The first stop on the trip was to the Intel  IoT innovation lab. The lab engineer, Mr. Baghwan Ramnani, introduced the students to the various initiatives that Intel is taking in the nascent IoT arena. They were given a brief demo of many solutions for the home and industrial area using the networked sensors of different types. The intel Galileo programmable board and its possibilities were demonstrated. Lastly, the intel home network, Yoga, was introduced. Various questions posed by the students was patiently answered by Ramnani. At the completion of the session at Intel Lab, Ms.Veronica Giles, the manager for events for Dtec gave a brief tour of the Incubation facility and floor spaces of DTEC to the students. She explained the various levels available at the center for startups and the competitions being organized for new entrants. She then guided the students to the last part of the tour, which was a presentation by Jibber Jabber chief Mr.Monty Adams. Jibber Jabber is a startup for University schedule management being incubated by the DTEC founders and all set to launch their product into the market in from December. Mr. Monty and team gave a brief presentation on the product and the startup journey to the students. The process from idea to establishment of the company was briefly covered and at the end, the student queries were patiently answered. Altogether a very interesting two hours spent at the Dtec facility. The tour was arranged by DCEI faculty Mr. Santhosh Menon and organized at DTEC by Ms.Veronica Giles.
