The Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics (DCEI) launched the first issue of the department newsletter MDX.Stream on the Thursday, October 22. Microsoft Academic Outreach manager Ahmed Ibrahim was the guest of honor for the event. University Director Dr. Cedwyn Fernandes initiated the occasion and together with Mr Ibrahim officially launched the magazine with a cake cutting ceremony. The custom-made pastry was decorated with a photo of the magazine. The first issue of the magazine was presented to Mr. Ibrahim, Dr. Cedwyn and Department Head Dr Fehmida Hussain, by the editor of MDX.Stream, Santhosh Menon. The event was superbly compered by Dr.Krishnadas Nanath and DCEI faculty members Engie Bashir, Jaspreet Singh Sethi and Pallavi Ranjan were present. Dr.Fehmida and the faculty gave a brief presentation on student activities and opportunities provided by the department.
Mr. Ibrahim gave an inspiring presentation showcasing Microsoft academic initiatives - the Dreamspark programme, internships and Imagine Cup competition. Middlesex Dubai students were introduced to the Dreamspark programme, which allows students from registered universities free academic licenses for a variety of enterprise applications. Microsoft Internship programmes were also introduced. The highlight of the event was the discussion on the Imagine Cup 2015 competition participation. It was an eye opener for the students who had a few queries on the participation and Mr. Ibrahim readily answered them. Cheer from the audience was a good measure of how much the students appreciated Mr. Ibrahim's presentation. The event was followed by a light lunch and opportunity for networking for the students.
