The first ever Open Mic at Middlesex University was organized by the Fearless Public Speaking and Debate Club on October 29, 2014. The aim of this event was to inspire a passion for speaking and to aid students overcome the fear of expressing their views in front of a large audience. Opened by a multitude of pieces by active members of the club, it was surprising to see a lot of members from the audience step up onto that stage and speak about something that they believed in, on topics ranging from political, comedic and personal extracts to even poetry slam, displaying a variety of unique speaking styles. It was also a pleasure to witness the opening speech by the President of the club dusted with a whole lot of humour and inspiration, who promised a series of opportunities in the future with the intention of improving students’ confidence, oratory skills, and overall stance in the field of Public Speaking. Overall it was an immensely fun and educative experience and we look forward to more of such events in the future.
