Working in collaboration with Dubai Government’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Middlesex University Dubai was delighted to organize a guest lecture on Positive Psychology by distinguished academic, Professor Kaiping Peng of UC Berkeley who has vast experience both as an academician and avid researcher. With more than 100 publications, Professor Peng has contributed greatly to the field of social psychology. Until 2007, he has been reported as the most cited Associate Professor in the field of social psychology. Professor Peng spoke passionately to a full lecture theatre on the subject of leading towards happiness. His talk was thoroughly enjoyed by Middlesex University students, faculty members and representatives from KHDA. Besides being enjoyable his lecture enriched the research awareness of the audience and pointed towards the future research directions. In his talk Dr. Peng emphasized the role of optimism and gratitude in financial growth of a country and its people.
Dr. Peng chaired an informal roundtable discussion with the Psychology Department where academics reviewed the current practice and future of positive psychology in the UAE. During the discussion Dr. Peng pointed out the resurgence in emphasis of role of soft skills (for instance, interpersonal communication) in industry and the benefit that can be gained by younger generations by developing these important skills. The Psychology Department on behalf of Middlesex University Dubai would like to extend sincere thanks to Professor Peng and KHDA for making this informative event possible.
